HELP! Kitten in dire need!
Tonight a friend and I were walking home from the store and we saw a little group of kittens in the grass of an undeveloped lot. They all started to run and hide in some brush.. except one, it took off in the opposite direction into the highway right in the way of oncoming traffic. A vehicle drove right over the kitten and we thought that was it for the kitty but he escaped unscathed and took off across the road into some bushes. My friend and I followed it across the road. I managed to find it and pick it up with no trouble, the kitten was not feral and was sweet as could be, just scared... But I noticed right off that something was wrong, this poor little kitten had no eyes... Like... NONE.. They were not swollen closed, they are just completely gone, pink holes is all.. Someone put this cat out either with no eyes, or still suffering from whatever sickness took them.

They knew, or hoped, that this kitten and it's litter mates, who they also put out, would die. The results very much look like what I've seen feline herpes lead into... A treatable illness if the owners had just taken the poor baby to the vet. Luckily the other kittens still had eyes, they were too wild for us to catch them without risking their lives so close to the highway, so instead we brought the sightless kitten home.

Now we are at a loss. This kitten needs a forever home, someone who can take care of it with its special needs. A stable environment where it can relax and live a comfortable life. This kitten seems sweet and has not attempted to bite, scratch or even growl. I am already at my max pet allowance, my landlord would not allow me to have another pet, and my friend also has 3 cats and a large dog and will be moving in just a few months. This is not a stable or safe environment for a blind kitten.

We are searching for advice or even someone who would be willing and able to take care of a kitten with special needs. We live in a small town and there are no cat rescues here, the nearest are hours away. The local shelter does not take cats and would simply euthe the kitten as soon as we left, the same would occur at the vet as well, they do not keep surrenders either. We also could not keep up long term treatment, financially.

I really do not want the kitten to have to be put down, as it is friendly, healthy (otherwise), and could have a long and lovely life ahead of it with the right human. Please spread the word about this sweet, unfortunate little life. We live in central Georgia and would be willing to ship or try to meet someone if they do not live too far away (I have to rely on someone else for transport and would not be able to ride for a long distance)

Christmas Party in Georgia
There will be a Christmas Party at my place this year, time and date to be announced, but I'm just putting out an invitation to anyone who would like to try to make it. Ride assistance is available if needed (You just need to pay some for gas and we will, most likely be able to come pick you up from anywhere in the surrounding area. That includes, but isn't limited to, Dublin, Statesboro, Augusta, and possibly Savannah). The party will have food, movies, video games, drinks (Alcoholic and non), a secret Santa event, and just much awesomeness. More information will be posted when a date is set in stone, but if you have any interest in attending please let me know.

This will be a fur friendly party, so feel free to bring your suits or wear your furry accessories.

Crash space is available for those who may be traveling, just make sure you bring blanket/pillows, as I may not have enough to go around.

BIG FUN, NO WHAMMIES! - Megaplex 2007 News - January 2007

Happy New Year from all of us at Megaplex 2007!

I'LL TAKE A HOTEL ROOM TO (FILL OUR) BLOCK

ATTENTION! Reservations close on *January 30, 2007*, so get your rooms as soon as possible! Less that a month left to go to get your room at the con rate!

This year, Megaplex 2007 will be held at the Wyndham Jacksonville Riverwalk, in downtown Jacksonville, Florida. The hotel is just off of I-95, on the Southbank of the St. John's River. Full directions can be found on our web site (http://www.ppmp.info).

Reservations at the hotel can be made ON-LINE this year! This method requires a credit card to use. Here's how:

1) Surf to http://www.wyndham.com/hotels/JAXHT/main.wnt .

2) Click on the "Get Rates or Make A Reservation For This Hotel" link, just under the hotel's address.

3) On the next page...
a. Leave "Select A Rate Plan" (Section 1) as "Best Available & Wyndham.com WEBRATES".
b. Enter your arrival and departure dates (Section 2). Remember, Megaplex is March 2-4, 2007.
c. Specify # of Rooms, and folks staying in them (Section 3).
d. Skip past Section 4, unless you're a Wyndham ByRequest member and want the credit.
e. In Section 5, type the following in the "Group Code" blank : 0301886pa
f. Click "Check Availability"

4) The next page shows the rooms available. You should see "Pawpet Live Experiences" as the Rate Plan, and $99/night as the rate for regular rooms. Click on the rate for the room of your choice to continue.

5) On the next page, double-check the selections in Sections 1-4, then fill in Sections 5-8 and click "Confirm Reservation".

If you prefer to reserve by phone, call (904) 396-5100. Be sure to reference group reservation code 0301886pa to get Megaplex's room rate. If you have any questions on the hotel, feel free to contact Randy Fox at mp-facility@pawpet.org.

The Wyndham is a short distance from the Museum of Science and History (MOSH), Friendship Park, and River City Brewing Company, which can easily be reached via the Riverwalk. The hotel is also a stop for the S.S. Marine Taxi service (http://www.jaxwatertaxi.com), which is a convenient way to get to the shops and restaurants at the Jacksonville Landing (http://www.jacksonvillelanding.com). You can also utilize the nearby Skyway service to get to the Landing (http://www.jtaonthemove.com/services/skyway.aspx), or take a pleasant stroll over the Main Street Bridge. For those wanting to stay on the hotel's side of the river, eateries and stores can be found a short walk away in the San Marco shopping district.

We'll have additional information on attractions and amenities on our web site soon, as well as how to get there from Jacksonville International Airport. In the meantime, if you have a question about Florida's First Coast, drop Karl Meyers a line at mp-ceo@pawpet.org. (He lives there, after all! :)

NOW, FOR OUR FEATURE PRESENTA...oops, sorry, last year's theme. :)

Before that, we're inviting folks to check out one of the cooler spots in Jacksonville...the Jacksonville Zoo! We'll meet up at 12:00pm at the main gate of the zoo. Admission is $11.00 (10% discount for AAA members and military personnel). We'll prowl the zoo, and answer questions about Megaplex and the Jacksonville area as we go. Directions to the Jacksonville Zoo can be found at http://www.jaxzoo.org/visit/directions.asp .

Megaplex 2007 dates and location!
The Board of Megaplex 2007 are pleased to announce that we have signed a contract and locked down dates for next year's convention.

The sixth edition of Florida's furry arts and entertainment convention will be held March 2-4, 2007, at the Wyndham Jacksonville Riverfront, in Jacksonville, Florida. Room rates will be $99 single/double, plus tax and fees.

As we just signed and sent back the contract this week, the hotel isn't set up to take our reservations yet. Keep watching our web site (http://www.ppmp.info) and megaplex for information on reserving your rooms. We should have this information available in short order.

The Wyndham is located on the Southbank of the St. Johns River, just outside downtown Jacksonville. It is a short distance from the Museum of Science and History (MOSH) and Friendship Fountain, and the Jacksonville Landing is just across the Main Street Bridge (and also accessible via "water taxi" from the hotel). It is easily reachable from I-95 and I-10.

For those familiar with Jacksonville, this hotel was just recently re-flagged, and was formerly the Radisson Riverwalk. Wyndham is in the process of remodeling the hotel now, and expects to have this done by September, well before Megaplex.

---

So, why Jacksonville?

This is, I'm sure, a big question on the minds of many of our prospective members. Well, the answer isn't all that different from one of the big reasons why Anthrocon moved from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh - cost.

The hotels we talked to in Orlando wanted way more than we have paid in past years for convention space. We're talking at least two to three times more. We also looked at the Tampa area, but what the hotels there wanted was still nearly double what we've paid in the past. Along with the increased space costs, the hotels were also offering higher room rates than we've had in the past.

The Wyndham, on the other hand, came along with a very agreeable offer, with a room rate under $100 before taxes. The lower space costs will allow us to look at some additional amenities for our members, as well. I guess you could say, in keeping with this year's theme, that The Price Is Right. :)

All in all, this will allow us to put on the best convention we can, without excessive worry over if we'll be able to afford the space. We may return to Orlando someday, or maybe even have a show in Tampa in the future, but for now, Jacksonville is our new home.

---

You're earlier in March...

Unfortunately, we did have to schedule a little earlier in March than we would have liked; the Wyndham has other events booked for our usual mid-March dates. We hope to be back in our traditional timeframe in 2008.

---

If you have any questions on our new location and weekend, please feel free to respond here, or send an e-mail to <megaplex-feedback@pawpet.org>. We'll be happy to answer questions on the convention.

Megaplex 2006...the HORROR! It's coming...

BOO! It's that time of year for spooks and scares...and for a quick update on Megaplex 2006!

The fifth-anniversary edition of Florida's furry arts and performance convention will be held 17-19 March 2006, as we return to the Sheraton World Resort in sunny Orlando, Florida.

This year, we're saluting classic B-movies, especially the great horror flicks that came about during that time. It's almost a shame we're not running the con this month, but we wouldn't want to conflict with those great furry Halloween parties out there. I'll be touching on one in particular in a moment, but first...

...the CUT TAG!Collapse )

...now, about that Halloween party. FURLOWEEN is coming up on Saturday, 29 October, in Orlando, FL, and we have a treat for attendees. You'll be able to pick up a special coupon code that you can use when registering for Megaplex 2006, saving you $5 off your attending membership! The code will be good only for 30 days after Furloween.

For more information on this year's Furloween, visit http://www.floridafurs.com/furloween.

(Just to keep our insurance folks happy: Furloween is a production of Patrick Dowden. Pawpet Live Experiences, Inc., is in no way responsible for this event. Questions on Furloween should be directed to Mr. Dowden. Right, back to...)

...the FUTURE! Things are progressing nicely on the programming front, and we hope to have some news on events and entertainment at this year's con in our next update.

In the meantime, keep an eye on our web site (http://www.ppmp.info/) and LiveJournal community (http://www.livejournal.com/community/megaplex) for more news. Hope to see you at Megaplex 2006!
